Open Question: Are College Degrees Worth It?!?
I am going to culinary school to get my undergraduate degree in Baking & Pastry Arts/Culinary Management. But, in the culinary field, certificates are acceptable too. My parents want me to have a college degree and are willing to partially help me out, so I plan to get a degree.
With the downturn of the economy, are college degrees –in general– really worth it? What’s your opinion?
Note: The economy does get wobbly every few years, but I believe this recession has hit us bad. We and numerous other countries have gained a huge amount of debt that seems almost impossible to pay back. And such, it is destabilizing many governments, which causes an even more unstable global and local economy
We might regain some of our economy back, but we will never return to what we once were. Therefore, with a smaller economy, there will be less and less jobs.
I do think that highly skilled jobs, such as finance, IT, engineering, ect., will become less important and less needed. Jobs that are basic to human needs (food, construction, medical, etc), on the other hand, will become more and more needed and/or will be more stable. In times of economical downturn, people return to simpler lifestyles and get back to the basics.
Again, this is just what I think. Please share your own opinion!
