Culinary crossroads: Afghan cuisine blends its neighbours' flavours but has a charm of its own
Often, the best meals take us completely by surprise. It was 2009 and election season in Afghanistan. I was among a group of reporters weaving through the Hindu Kush to see President Hamid Karzai stump for another term. Open Question: Becoming a chef? Is it worth it?

I am close to graduating high school and I stuck between a crossroad. I have the option of attending university to study a course I will probably hate in the future but I would like the university experience of living on campus and what not. However I have always loved cooking, I started when I was around 12 and I just loved cooking for friends and seeing the look on their faces when they taste my food. I want to cook and become a chef but I’ve heard and saw peoples life destroyed by the long hard tedious hours of cooking. Don’t get me wrong I love to cook but I would like to maintain a life outside the kitchen, hobbies, children, marriage. I guess what I’m asking is, if I do go into the culinary road, will it be so busy that I don’t have time for myself? Oh, lastly should I start in culinary school or go straight to restaurants?
Thank you very much
Wilson
